Language
Language disorders can manifest in various ways, such as struggles with vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, or expressing thoughts coherently. Your interventions may include focusing on improving language skills through exercises, games, and activities to enhance communication abilities.
Fluency
Fluency refers to the smoothness and ease with which speech is produced, including the rhythm, rate, and flow of speech. I assist individuals experiencing fluency disorders, such as stuttering, in achieving more fluent communication. Through therapy, I utilize evidence-based techniques tailored to each individual's needs, including strategies to manage speech disruptions, reduce tension, and increase confidence in speaking.
Articulation/Phonology
Articulation refers to the physical movements of the speech organs (such as the tongue, lips, and jaw) to produce sounds accurately. Phonology, on the other hand, involves the study of sound patterns and rules within a language, including the organization of speech sounds. Errors may sound like “weally” for “really” and “tootie” for “cookie”. Intervention will include achieving clearer speech sounds and overall communication.
Social Language/Dating
In the context of dating and romantic interactions, we have experience in providing skilled therapy as well as social language coaching. We focus on developing conversational skills, interpreting romantic cues, and navigating social norms associated with dating. We use whichever mode of dating the client would like to persue- apps, social events speed dating. We will look at how the client is meeting people and explore other possible ways of getting out there. The ultimate goal is to enable individuals looking to date to engage more clearly confidently.
Pragmatics
Pragmatics may be difficulties with understanding and applying social rules, interpreting nonverbal cues, and maintaining appropriate conversational skills. Treatment includes teaching explicit social communication skills through role-playing, modeling appropriate behaviors, and providing direct instruction on understanding social cues.
Coaching and Advocacy
Struggling with your IEP or treatment plan. I can support you by conducting comprehensive assessments, identifying specific communication goals. We can outline appropriate services and accommodations to address those goals effectively. We can collaborate with other professionals to ensure that the student's communication needs are understood and addressed.
Coaching can equip parents with strategies and resources to support their child's communication development at home. This may involve learning about speech and language milestones, demonstrating techniques for facilitating communication, and offering guidance on how to reinforce skills.
